E. So…Oliver, how are you?
O.B. I’m good, I’m currently working on my next documentary so things have been a bit overwhelming but other than that I’m okay.
E So, there’s one thing we all wanted to ask, TBC…what does it’s stand for, it’s never actually referred to.
O.B. A member of the crew actually thought it up originally, the idea is to play on when the age rating of a film is To Be Confirmed but instead our version of TBC stands for To Be Corrupted.
E. How do you feel about the amazing reception received by critics?
O.B. To be completely honest, I didn’t make this to impress critics…I made it simply to get a message across. Even if I had received the lowest criticism there is, id still feel happy with my work if I knew it helped even one person.
E. I believe it must have, the message is so strong but still gives the option to form your own opinion. Nothings being forced into our minds.
O.B Well thank you, that’s what we were aiming for, a clear message but no preaching.
E. So where did you get the idea from? What made you make this film?
O.B When I was younger, around 10, I managed to get my hands on a VHS copy of predator, as far as I remember I thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately upon arriving in school the next day, I spent my lunch break with a sharp stick, a bag of water, stating it was acid and an intent to, and quote, “Kill all the humans.” I know, it’s sick right? Anyway, I felt as if every time I was reminded about the story, some other kid somewhere else is watching an 18 rated film, I had to get a message out to the public.
E. Were there any unseen interviews in particular that stand out? Something that didn’t quite make the cut?
O.B. Indeed, plenty. The most prominent being a teenage male who’s first 18 rated film was south park….only to then continue and tell us he felt like replicating actions….such as swapping out somebodies heart for a potato. We didn’t know what to say. And to be completely honest, it did nearly make the cut rather than being swept straight under the rug. We felt it showed how even the most unexpected actions can be replicated.
E: Okay, so one thing our readers wanted to know was where you stand on violence in video games, music or even the news?
O.B. I’ve been asked this many times and my answers always the same, Would somebody watch films…if they didn’t do at least one of the things you mentioned? I mean, most people that watch films at least partake in one of those depending on the demographic. So of course my opinion stands, Lyrics in music, clips in games and yes, even the news. Newsreaders could easily get a message across without showing violent images or video footage. It’s not intended to manipulate people emotionally, it’s there to simply inform.
E: Okay, brilliant. I was wondering what you overall think could be done to make a major change?
O.B Look, I believe that the only way to truly make a large change is to cut out violence in films completely, but that will never happen. Not while there’s film critics and a demographic out there waiting for them. So I put it down to this. As much as I’d LOVE a large change, one will never occur, so I’d rather help one person at a time.
E: Thank you, Oliver and it’s been lovely speaking to you, we look forward to seeing you here again.
O.B. My pleasure.

Documentary Script.
To Be Corrupted:
Another Bloody Reel –
INTRODUCTION: In recent Society, films have been given a lower certification, the reason for this is either showing blatant disregard for the violence and the swearing or the desensitizing of a whole nation to this cinema. Showing the violent media to younger generations could influence them to recreate actions, in this documentary, we are investigating that.
AFTER FIRST INTERVIEW: We couldn’t help but ask ourselves why it is, that that’s such a shock? Surely people are aware of the increasing violence taking place directly in front of their own eyes. So we took the question out into a local high-street, hoping to find out if more people are in awe of this statement.
AFTER COLLEECTION OF VOX POPS: After interviewing the public, we bumped into the manager of our local CEX. Who was more that happy to answer a few questions for us.
AFTER CEX INTERVIEW: we spoke to the head of film at solihull 6th form college to see what he had to say about the issue.
